Award-winning Children’s Short Adds Three More Festivals to Its Roster

August 17, 2023 – Kris the Cat, an award-winning animated children’s short film, has been accepted to the Breck Film Festival, the Broadway International Film Festival Los Angeles, and the San Diego International Kid’s Film Festival, proving it’s the “purrfect” film for the festival circuit.

Inspired by a traditional Icelandic folk tale, Kris the Cat follows the adventures of the Queen’s pampered cat who becomes lost in the woods one day after chasing a mouse but soon finds himself surrounded by love in many forms. A hit with audiences of all ages, Kris the Cat won an Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2022 Indie Short Fest Los Angeles International Film Festival.

“I am thrilled that festivals are seeing something in Kris The Cat,” says writer and producer, Ross Gl Hewitt. “It’s a story about taking risks, discovering the world, and finding love. It’s such a joy for me to be in the audience watching families and their reactions. I am so happy that more children are getting the chance to see the film on the big screen. The 2D animation is colorful and bright, and the actors’ voices are purrfectly suited to the characters.”

The Breck Film Festival, running September 21 – 24th in Breckenridge, Colorado, has been named one of the Top 20 Film Festivals by USA Today, featuring 100 films over four days, and has been home to the world premieres of blockbuster films such as The Shawshank Redemption, The Fisher King, The Joy Luck Club, and L.A. Confidential. This year saw a record-breaking 550 submissions, attesting to the quality of Kris the Cat for making the cut.

The Broadway International Film Festival Los Angeles, August 24 – 27th, is celebrating its 16th anniversary and focuses on invigorating the Broadway corridor in downtown Los Angeles by creating opportunities for the community to interact with film artists. The festival showcases a range of films, ranging from emerging to established artists, from shorts to features.

Now in its 20th year, The San Diego International Kid’s Film Festival, August 25 – 27th, is renowned for its unique approach of promoting entertainment with education by showcasing international films and giving young, aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to interact with this multicultural community.
