BodySpace Studios Announces Special Beginner Pole Workshop Weekend

The pole dancing studio co-owned by long-time pole dancers, Sylvia and Kimberley, is holding a beginner workshop for anyone interested to learn pole dancing. With the popularity of this art form rising in Australia, BodySpace Studios aims to provide a safe space to learn and practice.

BodySpace Studios, a Sydney-based pole dancing company, announced its launch of the Special Beginner Pole Workshop Weekend on its website. The dance and pole workshop will take place on 3rd July from 11.30 am-12.30 pm at its Marrickville studio on Shepherd Street. This 1-hour session is taught by Co-owners Sylvia Sorial and Kimberley Mahoney, who collectively have more than ten years of pole dancing experience. It is curated for people who have never pole danced and want to pick up the basic skills of pole dancing in a safe and encouraging environment.

BodySpace Studios is founded on the core value of dance for the soul and aims to nurture the body through fitness and strength training. The Pole Workshop Weekend is designed for any beginner regardless of their fitness levels – in line with the Studio’s ‘all bodies welcome’ mantra – and will teach new learners how to dance and improve coordination. As opposed to purchasing a package at a minimum of $69 fortnightly or its regular open practice sessions at a minimum of $15, the Beginner Pole Workshop Weekend requires $10 to secure a pole.

“We wholeheartedly believe that pole dancing is an art form that helps learners get their fitness on track while having fun. It might seem daunting at first but BodySpace Studios creates a safe and non-judgmental environment for anyone who wants to learn pole dancing regardless of age, body type, or experience. Not to mention, it is a great form of workout for increased cardiovascular health,” said Kimberley Mahoney, Co-owner of BodySpace Studios.

Research by The University of Western Australia has found that pole dancing grew quickly in popularity in the country, with four studios in 2004 to at least 118 in 2018. Among various health benefits of pole dancing, improved flexibility and joint mobility, toning of muscle tissue such as in the biceps, glutes, and abdominals strengthens the heart to decrease the probability of heart disease.

Sydney recently reinstated the need for masks to contain the Delta COVID-19 variant. Nonetheless, for customers wary of heading out during this period, BodySpace Studios has a permanent offering of a free beginner trial class available on its website. This free trial is available for two weeks and can be booked at any time around the year. Students are encouraged to bring their mat, knee pads, and sweat towels for pole dancing classes and strictly allocate one pole person for health and safety reasons.

“As the popularity of pole dancing increases, BodySpace Studios hopes to reduce the stigma that has been stuck with this art form for so long. Many of our students have seen the tremendous health benefits of dancing and have now included it as part of their lifestyles. We are very glad to share the beauty of pole dancing with more people in Sydney and Australia,” continued Mahoney.

About the Studio:

BodySpace Studios is about Dance for the Soul. Its passion for movement is deeply rooted and goes beyond the physical aspects of aerial sports. It believes that pole is a ‘work-in’ and not just a workout. So no matter where its clients are at, BodySpace Studios is here to make them soar. To spread wellness and natural goodness from minds to mats, all the way up the poles – is its core value.
